the power of kindness and good friends

It has been said that your greatest friends are the ones that you can have a glass of wine with and laugh until the wee hours of the morning or the ones you can meet up with for a cup of coffee and not say a word but leave feeling like you had the best conversation. They are the ones you can go years without seeing and when you meet up, it feels like not a day has passed. But what about the ones you've never met?  This past week has taught me that I have five of the most amazing friends and the truth is, I have never met any of them in person.

Last week when I was playing with the idea of the auction to raise money for the Denton family, I sent a message to five of my favorite small shop owners that I communicate with through social media. Within minutes all five of them responded. Not only were they agreeing to help me, but they were also agreeing to help raise awareness and support me in anything I wanted to do to raise money. I asked for help and none of them blinked an eye or hesitated to jump in and be there to support me. Talk about the greatest friends a girl could have.  I am so happy to know Chelsea from Emerson Grace Boutique, Mandy from The Blue Envelope, Jessica from Isla and Lily, Kelsie from Little Michaels and Sara from Kokadoodle3.

Knowing that I would have donations from them, I felt empowered to reach out to other shops and the response has been seriously overwhelming and heartwarming.  In a time when there is so much bad news making headlines, it is amazing to see so much love. I have reached out to more shops than I would like to admit, but I have gotten responses from so many.  Not only are people willing to donate, they are willing to promote the auction.  I had one shop message me saying that they said some extra prayers for the family after getting my message.  So many people - complete strangers - from across the country joining together to help do something special for a family.  It's incredible and has definitely restored my faith in humanity during such a crazy time.  As of this morning, we have over eighty items donated to the auction and sixty-nine different vendors.  While most are small shops, there are some items being donated by individuals not associated with a shop who feel compelled to help.  I have a friend who will create a custom nursery painting and Laura from Happily Ever Parker is going to create a custom highchair banner.  There are incredibly talented, generous, intrinsically good people in the world.

I hope you'll check out the instagram page @sweetabbysauction and help us to raise money for the Denton family! There are so many incredible items up for auction.  You will find everything from lactation cookie mix to wine glasses to custom portraits.  We will be auctioning off jewelry, shop credits, clothes and more!  You can get a jump start on holiday shopping while supporting an incredibly brave little girl and some really amazing small businesses!  If you have any questions, please let me know!

Thanks, y'all!
