Do you ever look back on the relationships of a younger you? Do you ever wonder why you dated that person or if there was a bigger reason that your lives crossed paths? Thanks to Facebook, from time to time I find myself catching a past romantic interest in my newsfeed and I find myself thinking back to my younger years. Each encounter was a stepping stone to where I am today. I am thankful for those past relationships because they are a reason why I ended up where I am today. As Darius Rucker said, I thank God for all I missed because it led me here to this.
In high school, I casually dated this guy Adam on and off for about three years. Obviously, things did not work out. Adam went on to marry his college sweetheart (Katie) and I went on to marry mine. Adam and his wife have three beautiful little girls. And obviously you know Brandon and I have the most beautiful little girl to ever grace the planet. No bias or anything. But there is a reason that Adam and I crossed paths all those years ago. There was a bigger reason our lives touched and recently it has come to light.
In April of this year, Adam's daughter Abigail was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Over the next few months she had long stretches of hospital stays and also fought through pneumonia. The little girl is one tough cookie. Since April, with rare exceptions, the family has commuted from their home in southern Maryland to Baltimore (a 75 mile trip one-way) at least once a week. The ride can take anywhere from 2 hours to 3 depending on traffic in the area. Abigail's treatment course will last until mid-2017. At just shy of five years old, Abigail can explain to you what cancer is, how her treatments help her and can even draw her own blood. That little girl is mature beyond her years.
Over the next few weeks, I will be working with vendors of small shops from all over the country to put together an auction to raise money to support the Denton family. If you are a small shop and would like to participate - PLEASE contact me! You can send me a direct message on instagram (@sweetabbysauction) or email me firstname.lastname@example.org. If you are looking to start your holiday shopping early + help benefit a great cause, check out the auction October 23-24. There are a lot of great shops already signed up to donate! If you would simply like to donate to the family, that's incredible too! Just reach out to me and I would be happy to help!
I ask you to please spread the word! All donations will go directly to the Denton family.
