You guys. Seriously. I am so excited to share this shop with y'all! Today you'll meet Jenna from Southern Spruce! She's a fellow Maryland girl so you know she's good people :)
What is the name of your shop and how did you come up with it?
The name of my Etsy shop is Southern Spruce. I originally started refinishing furniture or "sprucing" up furniture. I lived in the South... so Southern Spruce kind of went hand in hand!
What do you make in your shop and how can we find you?
I design wedding invitations and signs, birthday and bridal shower invitations, digital printable downloads for holiday and home decor, and gift tags. I also recently added ceramic and travel mugs to my shop!
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your family.
I am a 30 year old girl who loves to create! I majored in photography but entered the "real world" as a graphic designer. I am originally from Baltimore but moved to North Carolina after I got married. I am currently 6 months pregnant with a baby girl and am due in early February. My husband and I are so excited!
In my free time I love spending time with my family, friends and two pups, Goose and Lewis. I love all things pumpkin spice, decorating, designing, the beach, the outdoors... if I am near the water, I am a happy camper!
How did you get started?
I always knew I wanted to open an Etsy shop! I had previously designed invitations for family and friends. When I found out you could sell digital items on Etsy, I was sold!
Does anyone help you with your shop?
It's just me and my two pups that keep my feet warm :)
What is your favorite piece in your shop and how did you come up with it?
I really enjoy designing mugs. I love being able to see my artwork come to life and be printed on a mug within minutes.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
Most of my inspiration comes from my friends, magazines, stores and Pinterest.
Where do you see your shop in the future? What are your aspirations for it?
My long term goal is to have Southern Spruce as my full time job. This has been a goal of mine for awhile. I would love to set it in motion!
Any advice for other small businesses or momtrepreneurs?
Plan! Plan! and Plan! And then have a back-up plan!
I had plans of creating invitations and digital downloads. My plans changed and ceramic mugs were born. I have also realized that Etsy is so competitive that you need a back-up plan and have other methods of selling your products.
What are some of YOUR favorite shops and small businesses?
My favorite Etsy shop is Printable Wisdom. Ashley has done a great job with branding her shop. I also feel she is always evolving her store and has such a wide variety that appeals to many buyers.
